In Meilan District, Haikou City, there is a small island located on the edge, facing the Qiongzhou Strait to the north and adjacent to mangrove forests and Dongzhai Port to the south. As the island is located to the north and surrounded by the sea on all sides, it became a port in Qiongzhou, hence the name Beigang Island. This is also the only island administrative village in Haikou.
