Hou’an Rice Noodles

Introduction & Highlights

As a symbol of good fortune and longevity, you can find countless noodle specialities all over Hainan island. And if you're planning to visit Hou'an town, in Wanning city, why not try Hou'an Rice Noodles?

The local variety, which you can also taste in Haikou city, has quite a long history dating back to the Song Dynasty, but it only grew in popularity more recently.

As a soup, this is the perfect appetiser to get your day off to a great start. The local recipe includes pig offal and seafood like whelks, shrimp and sea snails, which are deliciously mixed with egg and scallions.

This provides a warming broth you can sprinkle with yellow chilli sauce and take with you to enjoy while on-the-go during your visit to Hainan island.

Every local family passes down its Hou’an Rice Noodle secrets from generation to generation and for this reason you might encounter flavour differences if you try this dish in different places. One thing is sure though: they all taste deliciously good. A taste sensation that will become a culinary highlight of your visit.
