If you go for a stroll through Puqian town's streets and alleys, in Haikou, you'll always be able to sense Zao Po Cu soup, feeling and absorbing its unique fragrance.

This typical snack, which can be sweet and sour at the same time, is one of Hainan's residents favourite dishes and promises to become yours as well.

Some locals love it so much they make a point of going out to eat it at least once a month.

Autumn and winter are the best seasons to enjoy this dish as it's hot and made to comfort the stomach.

The soup has become so popular because of its seductive mix of flavours that provide, altogether, a delicious and tasty meal.

Perfect to be enjoyed with a nice drink, this vinegary soup features ingredients such as garlic and Chinese onions, and others you’ll get to know quite well while you visit Hainan.

These include noodles, seaweed, beef offal, squid and plenty of vegetables, among others, which can all be topped off with sprinkles of chilli. Perfect to be enjoyed with a group of friends or with your family.
